About Me

I absolutely love music! I grew up loving what I heard coming from my little, portable AM radio. Later, I graduated to stereos and the FM dial.

Then, "WKRP in Cincinnati" hit the airwaves. Dr. Johnny Fever created in me the desire to do more than just listen to the radio. Now, I wanted to be on the radio, doing what Johnny did on the TV show.

Unfortunately, my life took some less than desirable turns. I got lost in the world for a while. It was not a good time, and it caused a great deal of heartache for me, my family, and for others.

Eventually, though, I began to pull out of that life, with the help of the good Lord and His people. I got clean and sober, and have remained so ever since July of 1990.

Along the way, I discovered KZUM, 89.3 FM, in Lincoln, Nebraska. The station's on air programming is produced almost entirely by volunteers who do shows in a myriad of formats. Each programs their own shows, and does so purely for the love of the music.

I loved it, so I began pestering their program director about getting my own volunteer slot. My request was eventually granted and, on September 28th, 2003, I went on the air!

Initially, my show, called "Dr. Rock & the Medicine Show," ran from 3-6 am every Sunday morning. In 2005, I got the opportunity to shift the show to a slot three hours earlier, airing from 12 midnight on Saturday nights until 3 am.

Unfortunately for KZUM, they had difficulty finding reliable volunteers to fill my old slot. Eventually, my show was extended by one hour, and later by another two hours. Since the summer of 2006 I have pulled a 6-hour, overnight shift every Saturday night from midnight until 6 am on Sunday mornings. While I don't get paid to do it, I do get to program, produce, engineer, and host the program, which is very rare in radio these days.

Again, I do this as a volunteer. I donâ??t get paid a dime to do this show. With "Dr. Rock & the Medicine Show" listeners get six straight hours a week of almost anything by almost anyone, and it's commercial free! Now this is true music variety!

In addition to the KZUM show, I program an online radio station on Live365.com, and two online TV channels. One is on Veoh and the other on YouTube

No, I derive no income from any these projects, either. I do them all for the love of the music! It is, of course, my ultimate goal to gain employment in this field. If you are broadcaster who is hiring, please check out my employment profile by clicking here and you will be taken directly to it.
