I want to sell music

An article discussing ways you can sell your music online
The first thing that a MBA professor will tell you when you take a Marketing class is: “I will show how you to sell nothing”. And of course, in today’s world, the consumer market is rampant with advertising copy, jingles, slogans, mind-numbingly boring television commercials which “brand” the product and then, as if by a stroke of genius, this profession redeems itself when you see Carmen Electra in a television commercial with a strategically placed “Got Milk?” on her T-shirt which you were sure you couldn’t fit into when you moved to the fifth grade. And I guess that’s what marketing in today’s world is all about. A titillating experience… perhaps?
Watching television these days is like watching snippets of a movie between oft-repeated commercials which of course cater to a particular target audience that none of us belong to rather than vice-versa. Soccer of course, remains the only show on television that cannot be interrupted by these marketing nimrods, only unless it’s half-time. Or else the beer drinking fans who don’t understand the sequence of words, “one too many’ will go ape-shit if interrupted by these corporate numbskulls and their marketing ploys, during a live telecast. Thank God for that! And can you blame them? It’s a matter of life and death, you know, especially when you’re betting next month’s paycheck on the home team hoping they’d win. After all, there are few things in life that are fun anymore, so even if you do lose, so what?
Now before you begin to think that this is an anti-marketing rant, maybe this will throw some light on my situation:
Question: What do you call a guitar player who splits with his gal?
Answer: Homeless.
So, I’ll say it loud and clear for the record: “I’m broke and live in a box just outside my parents’ duplex”. So, my need for marketing is just as much as a fish needs a bicycle.
Since I’m an aspiring musician as well, I would want to sell my music too and since I’m obscured from the real world as I’m canned within the four walls of this box, what do I do now?
And then God spoke to me one day: Son, use the internet. Make an online profile for your band! Market yourself using its unlimited power and reach!
And so, I set off in my quest to find the most suitable way to market my music over the internet where I was acquainted with whole lot of marketing products that showed us how to market the music that we make, with more bang for your buck, so to speak.
And then I stumbled across Alterhit, an online community, where you can build your band’s profile to promote yourself for free, upload your music and have others sell your music for you. Whether you’re an Indie band or an artist who’s looking to make music for the radio or the Billboard charts or just someone who has a roof over his head, a laptop with an operating system of Windows 2000 and above, a pair of headphones and most importantly, your parents’ credit card with a dangerously-close-to-being-maxed-out credit limit, we can all make some money while we’re having a nice time. And you don’t need to ‘market’ yourself here with dancing rabbits, snazzy Mork-like outfits while muttering ‘Nanu Nanu’ quizzically or even being surrounded by women who need to get a life away and a real job… selling ‘racks’, maybe. All you really have to do is be yourself. That should be nice and just suffice. Here, at Alterhit, we let the music sell itself.

Alterhit lets artists upload music for the public to listen to and buy. The public can take part in the sale of music by setting up a shop selling music downloads.
