BIOGRAPHY

This interview was conducted with Dlas Scott for MPx magazine, while he was in the studio recording "Hiding in the Eye".-(jason stuart)

Twentysome years ago Scott Dlas Dobratz and guitarist Charlie Schlauderaff founded the band "Baron Lesh".  Its history includes the recording of several albums, various member departures, countless shows, thousands of miles traveled, and an endless library of tunes.
In 2006, Dlas and drummer Jeff "Jaguar" Watt began working on a side project that became the band "TheStill".  In late 2007, "TheStill" entered the studio and began recording one of many sessions, that would later become the tracks for "Hiding in the Eye".
In 2008, "Baron Lesh" was signed to a small independent label and was on and off the road promoting their self-produced album "The Colorful Album".  A retrospect of Lesh's music from its inception to the present.
In late summer of 2008 as contract obligations were complete "Baron Lesh" took a hiatus.
In early 2009, Jeff and Dlas, were once again in the studio recording as "TheStill". This interview took place over the phone, in February 2009, during one of the "Hiding in the Eye" recording sessions.

Interviewer: How are the latest sessions going?

Dlas Scott: Like the universe it's unfolding on schedule.

Interviewer:How does this latest session differ from others?

Dlas Scott: We've had time to rehearse the material as a full band so coming into the studio we've been more prepared. In other sessions the material sort of found its sound in real time.  We were recording and writing some of the songs at the same time, which was draining on the band and our wallets.

Interviewer: Are there any new players?

Dlas Scott: We've recorded and rehearsed with two different bass players. Pete Campbell from "The Mighty Nimbus" and Josh Link of "Primal Groove".  But, the basic format of me on the guitar/vocals and Jeff on the drums is the same.

Interviewer: How have the new players contributed to the sound?

Dlas Scott: Pete is primarily more of a drummer and seems to connect with Jeff's biorhythm. I think his approach to bass is more percussive.  While Link is more of a guitarist and seems to add more of a melodic tone to the songs.  Both are seasoned players and seem to fit right in.

Interviewer: Last time we spoke you had sent me some rough tracks of the songs "kicker" "weather and bird" and "trial by fire" ... How have these tracks progressed and are they still candidates for this album?

Dlas Scott: Those songs were all in what we call the "Blueprint" stage. Project demos that we use to get the basic structures and idea of a song.  Sometimes they stay pretty close to the original and other times they change completely.  Those three songs are all candidates and have remained really close to the original "Blueprint" recordings.

Interviewer: Have the latest sessions produced any new material?

Dlas Scott: A couple new ones but, we're mainly focusing on the album material.

Interviewer: When can we expect the completion of "Hiding in the Eye"?

Dlas Scott: If everything goes smoothly we should have a final mix by this fall.

Interviewer: Until then, where can fans find updates and news about "TheStill"?

Dlas Scott: We're finding that "TheStill" is so general of a search it's hard to find our sites.  So we're placing most of our news and updates as "thestillist".  So just google "thestillist", as one word, and you should find our latest links.

Interviewer: Can we expect anything more from "Baron Lesh" in the near future?

Dlas Scott: I've no doubts that Charlie and I will collaborate again, as for when it's more or Lesh out of my hands.
